Psychiatric and Addiction Treatment

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy at Confluence Psychiatry
At Confluence Psychiatry in Denver, we offer a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) for individuals struggling with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mood disorders.

What Is Ketamine-Assisted Therapy?
KAT combines the use of ketamine with therapeutic support to accelerate healing, deepen insight, and enhance emotional flexibility. Research shows that ketamine—especially when paired with therapy—can provide rapid relief for individuals who have not responded to traditional psychiatric treatments.

Expert Care from a Board-Certified Psychiatrist
Dr. Charles Shuman personally can provide therapeutic support during the ketamine treatment. As a board-certified psychiatrist with over two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Shuman brings a uniquely integrative approach to care—combining biological, psychological, and social perspectives.
He has completed 150 hours of didactic training through a Colorado-approved Integrated Psychiatric Institute Psychedelic Assisted Therapy Program, equipping him with specialized knowledge in applicable therapy principles, ethics, and integration techniques.

What to Expect

  • Initial Evaluation – A comprehensive psychiatric assessment to determine whether KAT is appropriate for you.
  • Preparation Sessions – Dr. Shuman will meet with you to set intentions and build a therapeutic foundation before your first ketamine experience.
  • Treatment Sessions – During your ketamine session, Dr. Shuman can be present to offer therapeutic guidance, monitor your safety, and help you process emerging thoughts, emotions, or imagery.
  • Integration – After each session, you will work together to make meaning of your experience and apply insights to daily life.

Is KAT Right for You?
KAT may be helpful for individuals living with:

  • Treatment-resistant depression
